Lamp Post Globes sells a variety of outdoor lights, fixtures, and accessories. While the lights can come in various shapes and sizes, like cubes and ellipsoids, many are acrylic light globes.
Is Acrylic Better Than Glass?
Acrylic does have some advantages over glass. For example, it weighs only half as much as glass, so it is generally easier to work with. Despite its lightness, however, acrylic is also far tougher than glass; it can be 20 times as resistant as impact. Acrylic is also shatterproof and weather resistant. It is thus safer than glass and can last a lot longer.
What Are the Advantages of Prismatic Light Globes?
Prismatic light globes were first developed in the 1890s. The indented lines are actually prisms that can focus the light from even dim bulbs to produce bright and clear light.
Poly-carbonate and acrylic prismatic globes also have UV inhibitors that will keep them from turning yellow over time. The opening can have either a neck with threads or no neck.
What Are Some of the Options Available?
Acrylic globes can range in size from six inches in diameter to 24 inches in diameter, and their openings also vary in size. They can be prismatic or smooth.
Most of the globes, including all of the prismatic models, are clear, but a few are opaque. Some of the opaque globes are “frosted,” so they have a pearly sheen. A few globes are colored; available colors include smoke, bronze, and white.
